2004 05 24 CC Minutes, SpecialMINUTES OF THE SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN May 24, 2004 8:00 a.m. The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in special session on May 24, 2004, at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Chamber of Baytown City Hall with the following in attendance: Ronnie Anderson Council Member Calvin Mundinger Council Member Scott Sheley Council Member Pete C. Alfaro Mayor Gary M. Jackson City Manager Ignacio Ramirez, Sr. City Attorney Gary W. Smith City Clerk Absent were: Coleman Godwin Council Member Don Murray Council Member Mercedes Renteria III Council Member The meeting was opened with a quorum and the following business was conducted: Consider Proposed Resolution No. 040524 -1, canvassing the returns of the general election held on May 15, 2004. Pursuant to the Election Code requiring the Council to canvass the returns of an election not earlier than eighth day or later than the eleventh day after the date of the election, the City Council conducted the official canvass. The results were as follows: Mayor Calvin Mundinger 2,184 votes Mercedes Renteria III 741 votes Council Member District No. 4 Don Murray 449 votes Council Member District No. 5 Ronnie Anderson 450 votes Council Member District No. 6 Dave Jirrels 336 votes Sammy Mahan 417 votes Jerry L. Doyle, Sr. 22 votes Proposition No. 1 For 1,642 votes Against 1,331 votes Page 2 of 2 Minutes of the Special Session — May 24, 2004 Council Member Sheley moved approval of the proposed resolution canvassing the results of the general and special election held on May 15, 2004. Council Member Mundinger seconded the motion. The vote follows: Ayes: Council Members Anderson, Mundinger, and Sheley. Mayor Alfaro. Nays: None. The motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 1651 A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 15"' DAY OF MAY, 2004, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR AT LARGE AND THREE COUNCIL MEMBERS FROM DISTRICT NOS. FOUR, FIVE AND SIX; CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 15ru DAY OF MAY, 2004, FOR THE PURPOSE OF VOTING FOR OR AGAINST THE ADOPTION OF A LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN AT THE RATE OF ONE - FOURTH OF ONE PERCENT TO PROVIDE REVENUE FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR OF MUNICIPAL STREETS; FINDING THAT NOTICE OF THE REGULAR AND SPECIAL ELECTIONS WAS PROPERLY HELD AND THE RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. Adjourn. Council Member Mundinger moved that the meeting adjourn. Council Member Sheley seconded the motion. The vote follows: Ayes: Council Members Anderson, Mundinger, and Sheley. Mayor Alfaro.
