2002 06 12 CC Minutes, SpecialMINUTES OF THE SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN June 12, 2002 8:00 a.m. The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in special session on June 12, 2002, at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Chamber of the Baytown City Hall with the following in attendance: Ronnie Anderson Coleman Godwin Calvin Mundinger Mercedes Renteria III Don Murray Monte Mercer Ignacio Ramirez, Sr. Gary W. Smith The following Council Members were absent: Scott Sheley Pete C. Alfaro Council Member Council Member Council Member Council Member Mayor Pro Tem City Manager City Attorney City Clerk Council Member Mayor The meeting was opened with a quorum present after which the following business was conducted: Consider Proposed Resolution No. 020612 -1, canvassing the returns of the recount of the Mayoral Runoff Election held on June 1, 2002. Pursuant to the Election Code requiring the Council to canvass as soon as practicable after completion of a recount that changes the number of votes received for a particular candidate, the City Council conducted the official canvass using the Recount Coordinator /Supervisor's report. The results in each precinct were examined and verified. The results were as follows: Mayor Pete C. Alfaro Charles "T- Bone" Shaffer 2,862 votes 2,800 votes Council Member Godwin excused himself from the meeting at 8:10 a.m. due to another appointment. Council Member Anderson moved adoption of the proposed resolution. Council Member Renteria seconded the motion. The vote follows: Ayes: Council Members Anderson, Mundinger, and Renteria. Mayor Pro Tern Murray. Nays: None. The motion carried. Page 2 of 2 r Minutes of the Special Session —June 12, 2002 RESOLUTION NO. 1548 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, CANVASSING THE RECOUNT OF JUNE 11, 2002, OF THE MAYORAL RUNOFF ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 1ST DAY OF JUNE, 2002, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR FROM THE CITY AT LARGE; DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE RECOUNT; FINDING THAT NOTICE OF THE ELECTION WAS PROPERLY HELD AND THE RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. Adjourn. There being no further business, Council Member Mundinger moved adjournment of the meeting. Council Member Anderson seconded the motion.
