2002 05 07 CC Minutes, SpecialMINUTES OF THE SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN May 7, 2002 8:00 a.m. The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in special session on May 7, 2002, at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Chamber of the Baytown City Hall with the following in attendance: Coleman Godwin Calvin Mundinger Don Murray Pete C. Alfaro Monte Mercer Ignacio Ramirez, Sr. Gary W. Smith The following Council Members were absent: Ronnie Anderson Mercedes Renteria III Scott Sheley Council Member Council Member Council Member Mayor City Manager City Attorney City Clerk Council Member Council Member Council Member The meeting was opened with a quorum present after which the following business was conducted: Consider Proposed Resolution No. 020507 -1, canvassing the returns of the Municipal Election held on May 4, 2002. Pursuant to the Election Code requiring the Council to canvass the returns of an election no sooner than two days, nor more than six days, after the date of the election, the City Council conducted the official canvass. The results were as follows: Mayor Charles "T- Bone" Shaffer 2,085 votes Pete C. Alfaro 2,046 votes David W. Evans 706 votes Council Member District No. 4 Russell Henry Thomas Lorfing 266 votes Don Murray 583 votes Council Member District No. 5 Ronnie Anderson 400 votes Council Member District 6 Coleman Godwin 601 votes Proposition 1 Adding Article H "The Council," Section 22 "Fire Department Staffing" to the Charter of the City of Baytown to require a minimum of five fire stations, a minimum of one fire emergency vehicle at each station and a minimum of four personnel, consisting of one officer, one fire equipment operator and two firefighters at each station. For 2,579 votes Against 1,502 votes Council Member Mundinger moved adoption of the proposed resolution. Council Member Godwin seconded the motion. The vote follows: Ayes: Council Members Godwin, Mundinger, and Murray. Mayor Alfaro. Nays: None. The motion carried. RESOLUTION NO. 1543 A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 4TH DAY OF MAY, 2002, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING ONE COUNCIL MEMBER FROM DISTRICT NO. 4, ONE COUNCIL MEMBER FROM DISTRICT NO. 5, ONE COUNCIL MEMBER FROM DISTRICT NO. 6, AND A MAYOR FROM THE CITY AT LARGE, AND CONSIDERING THE ADOPTION OF CHARTER AMENDMENT REGARDING FIRE DEPARTMENT STAFFING; DECLARING THE RESULTS OF THE ELECTION; FINDING THAT NOTICE OF THE ELECTION WAS PROPERLY HELD AND THE RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. Adjourn. There being no further business, Council Member Murray moved adjournment of the meeting. Council Member Godwin seconded the motion.
