OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
January 21, 2000
The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in regular session on
January 21, 2000, at 7:30 a.m., in the Don M. Hullum Conference Room, City
Hall, 2401 Market Street, with the following in attendance:

The meeting was opened with a quorum present, after which the
following business was conducted:
CONSIDER PROPOSED ORDINANCE NO. 000121 -1, DECLARING AN
EMERGENCY SITUATION AND AWARDING THE BID FOR REPLACEMENT
AND INSTALLATION OF A BOILER AT THE COMMUNITY BUILDING
Herbert Thomas stated that the boiler in the Community Building was
thirty -two years old and had been repaired numerous times. He said the long-
term plan would renovate the Community Building eventually, but the boiler was
in a dangerous state and should be replaced immediately. He said the City had
a proposal from Gulf Coast Boiler Service Company to furnish labor and
materials to install a new hot water heating boiler for a total price of $16,200. A
new Ajax Model No. WNG 2000 has been located on the East Coast. It can be
shipped immediately and installed within three days upon arrival. This is the

same type boiler that was installed for City Hall during the renovation. When the
HVAC system is replaced at the Community Building in the near future, the new
Ajax boiler can be moved to the central heating plant negating the need to
purchase another boiler. The administration recommended approval of this
emergency purchase.
Council Member Hinds moved to adopt the ordinance. Council Member
Almendarez seconded the motion. The vote follows:

ORDINANCE NO. 8811
AN ORDINANCE DECLARING THAT AN EMERGENCY
SITUATION EXISTS, AUTHORIZING THE PAYMENT OF THE
SUM OF FIFTEEN THOUSAND SIXTY -SIX AND NO /100
DOLLARS ($15,066.00) TO DERRYBERRY'S, L.P., FOR A HOT
WATER HEATING BOILER FOR THE COMMUNITY CENTER;
AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
Adjourn
As there was no further business to be transacted, the meeting was
adjourned.
