2006 03 07 CC Minutes, Special MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN March 7, 2006 11:30 a.m. The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met on March 7, 2006, at 11:30 a.m. at the Goose Creek Country Club, 5000 Country Club Drive, Baytown, Harris County, Texas with the following in attendance: Brandon Capetillo Council Member Sammy Mahan Council Member Don Murray Council Member Calvin Mundinger Mayor Gary M. Jackson City Manager Bob Leiper Deputy City Manager Kelvin Knauf Assistant City Manager Absent were: Council Members Anderson, Renteria and Sheley Discuss the Baytown Crime Control and Prevention District, including its creation, proposed tax, budget plan, crime control plan and possible election. Discuss the Baytown Fire Control, Prevention, and Emergency Medical Services District, including its creation, proposed tax, budget plan, fire control, prevention, and emergency medical services plan, and possible election. Gilbert Santana introduced Gary Cochran of the Chamber of Commerce Public Safety Committee. Mr. Cochran gave a presentation on the proposed 1/8 cent sales tax to fund the Crime Control and Prevention District and the 1/8 cent sales tax to fund the Fire Prevention, Control, and Emergency Medical Service District. Mr. Cochran stated that if the sales tax for the Crime District passed, the funds would be used for 10 additional police officers, additional vehicles and to replace laptop computers. Mr. Cochran also stated that if the Fire District sales tax passed, the funds would be used to build a fire training facility and to replace fire fighting equipment. Two persons in the audience made comments supporting the Crime Control and Prevention District tax and the Fire Control, Prevention and Emergency Medical Services District. Other items mentioned at the meeting were the Chamber of Commerce golf tournament, the annual Chamber banquet and the Citizen of the Year award. Adjourn.
