After he completed the presentation he requested questions or comments from council. Some of the points council wished to emphasize were the increase of hazardous materials being transported through Baytown after the opening of Fred Hartman Bridge, and the fact that Spur 201 and Loop 330 would be used as evacuation routes during hurricanes, including a large number from the Galveston - Freeport area. Council member Alfaro pointed out that one of the things he planned to mention is the total number of people who have been killed in the four years from 1988 through 1991 on those two thoroughfares, which represent about 30% of all the people in fatalities, as well as 30% of all accidents in Baytown. Council member Pruett suggested that rather than just mentioning Baytown traffic, the report should emphasize East Harris County traffic. Council member DonCarlos suggested perhaps data be developed with regard to the number of plants along the channel and if there are figures on the number of people who work up and down the channel.
