May 23, 1989
The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in
special session on Tuesday, May 23, 1989, at 7:00 a.m. in the
Council Chamber of the Baytown City Hall with the following
attendance:

The meeting was called to order with a quorum present, after
which the following business was conducted.
Recount Committee Results Announced
Mayor Hutto announced that a Recount of the votes cast for
District 1 candidates had been conducted on Monday, May 22, 1989.
That recount resulted in no change.
Consider Proposed Resolution, Canvassing the Results of the
Municipal Election Held on May 20, 1989
Council canvassed the election returns which reflected the

Resolution No. 1058
A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL
ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 20TH OF MAY,
1989, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR FROM THE CITY AT LARGE,
ONE COUNCILMAN AT LARGE, AND FIVE COUNCILMEN FROM THE RESPECTIVE
FIVE DISTRICTS; DECLARING THE RESULTS OF SAID ELECTION; FINDING
THAT NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION WAS DULY AND PROPERLY GIVEN AND THAT
SAID ELECTION WAS PROPERLY HELD AND THE RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY
THE PROPER OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF
TEXAS.
Consider Proposed Ordinance, Calling Run -Off Election for June 3,
1989
Council considered the proposed ordinance calling a run -off
election for June 3, 1989 with two changes noted. The presiding
judge for Central Counting for June 3, 1989 election will be Ron
Embry, and the election judge for Precinct No. 102 will be Mike
Munoz with Dorothy Shields serving as alternate.
Councilman Pruett moved for adoption of the ordinance.
Councilman Johnson seconded the motion. The vote follows:

AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE 3RD
DAY OF JUNE, 1989, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR FROM THE
CITY AT LARGE, A COUNCILMAN FROM THE CITY AT LARGE, AND TWO
COUNCILMEN FROM DISTRICTS NOS. 3 AND 4; PROVIDING FOR THE
ELECTION OF OFFICERS; DESIGNATING THE PLACES AND MANNER OF
HOLDING SAID ELECTION; PRESCRIBING THE HOURS; ESTABLISHING THE
CENTRAL COUNTING STATION; PROVIDING FOR A SPECIAL CANVASSING
BOARD FOR ABSENTEE BALLOTS_; AND PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING AND
PUBLICATION OF NOTICE.
