Mayor Walker called the meeting to order and stated that the purpsoe of the special
emergency meeting was to review the statues of the Special run -off Election which
is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, May 1, the sam day the school district has
called an election for the approval of school bonds. He asked the City Manager
for his report.
Mr. Lanham stated that some questions had arisen which had made it necessary for
the school attorney, thebonding attorney and the City Attorney to confer several
times to know what must be done to proceed jointly with the two elections. Due
to the recent changes, apparently it will not be necessary for the council to
take action at this meeting to change anything insofar as the notice and election
officials are concerned. He asked the City Attorney to elaborate further.
City Attorney Richardson reported that he had conferred with both the school and
bonding attorneys and the two elections may safely be held on the same day, in
the sam room with the same judges and assistant judges, but separate locations.
In affect, there will be two separate elections, the same judges and assistant
judges may be used, but it will be necessary to use separate clerks in the two
elections. Both the City Attorney and the School Attorney would Iike to meet with
the officials prior to the election to discuss the requirements. By so doing it
is hoped to eliminate any problems which may occur and answer any questions which
may be forthcoming. He will confer with the School Attorney on the date of the
meeting.
There being no further business to come before the council, Councilman Lander moved
and Councilman Walker seconded that the meeting adjourn. The mayor declared the
meeting adjourned.
