1972 05 09 CC Minutes, Emergency5228 MINUTES OF THE EMERGENCY MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN May 9, 1972 The City Council of the City of Baytown met in an emergency session on Tuesday, May 9, 1972, at 5:00 p.m., in the Baytown City Hall with the following members in attendance: Jody Lander Tom Gentry Charles Pool Jim McWilliams C. 0. Walker ** Allen Cannon C. Glen Walker J. B. LeFevre Neel Richardson Edna Oliver Absent: Howard Northcutt Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Mayor Acting City Manager City Attorney City Clerk Administrative Assistant Mayor Walker called the meeting to order and the following business was transacted: Appoint City Manager Councilman Gentry moved to appoint Fritz Lanham as City Manager for the City of Baytown, effective May 22, 1972, salary to be $25,000 per year, plus $1800 per year car allowance, plus moving expenses to Baytown. Councilman Walker seconded the motion. The vote follows: Ayes: Councilmen Lander, Mayor Walker Nays: None Reschedule Council meeting Gentry, Pool, McWilliams, Walker Because several councilmen will be attending the institute for mayors and councilmen in San Antonio at the time of the next regular council meeting, May 16 Councilman Lander moved to r6- schedule the meeting to May 23 at 6:30 p.m. ** Councilman Cannon arrives. Councilman Walker seconded the motion. - Ayes: Councilman Lander, Gentry, Pool, McWilliams, Walker and Cannon Mayor Walker Nays: None Designate Representative to Washington Hearings,. Mayor Walker called attention to a letter from a staff assistant on the senate subcommittee on public works acknowledging Baytown's place on the agenda Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Baytown is also scheduled to be before the house committee at noon that same day. Councilman Gentry moved to designate Mayor Walker as the spokesman for the local government. Councilman Walker seconded the motion. Even though authorization has been made to send two representatives discussion followed as to the necessity of two representatives. A vote on the motion was called: Ayes: Councilmen Lander, Gentry, Pool, McWilliams, Walker and Cannon Mayor Walker Nays: None Counclman Lander moved to send another representative along with the Mayor. The motion died for lack of second as this authorization has been made. Councilman Walker moved to delegate authority to the Mayor to choose the person who will go with him to Washington. Councilman Gentry seconded themotion. Ayes: Councilmen Lander, Gentry, Pool, McWilliams, Walker and Cannon Mayor Walker Nays: None if Minutes, May 9, 1972 Memorial Day and 4th of July 5229 As a matter of clarification, Mr. LeFevre referred to the recently insitituted policy of the federal governemnt for celebration, on Mondays, holidays falling in the middle of the week. He requested the City embrace this policy for Memorial Day and July 4 of this years Councila offered no objections.
