1971 05 12 CC Minutes, Special5012 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN May 12, 1971 The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas met in special session on Wednesday, May 12, 1971 at 5:00 o'clock p.m., in the Council Room of the Baytown City Hall with the following members in attendance: Ted Kloesel Councilman Don M. Hullum Councilman Allen Cannon Councilman Charley O. Walker Councilman Jody Lander Councilman Jim McWilliams Councilman C. Glen Walker Mayor D. R. Vcelkel City Manager Howard Northcutt Administrative Assn't W. R. Laughlin City Attorney Edna Oliver City Clerk Absent: David Evans Councilman Leonard Stasney Councilman The Mayor called the meeting to order and the Invocation was offered. He than stated the purpose of the meeting was to canvass the returns of the Special Run -off Election as stipulated in the Charter. Resolution - Canvassing Election Returns and Declaring Results of Election The City Council canvassed the returns of the Special Run -off Election held May 4, 1971 by verifying the election totals of the eleven precincts and the absentee votes cast at the City Hall from the totals submitted by the election judges at the time of delivery. The City Attorney than introduced and read a resolution declaring the results of the election, finding that notice was duly given and the returns of the election, finding that notice was duly given and the returns made by the proper officials in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas. Councilman Kloesel moved to adopt the resolution canvassing the returns. Councilman Hull= seconded the motion. The vote follows: Ayes: Councilmen Kloesel, Hullum, Cannon and Kelley Mayor Walker Nays: None The caption of the resolution follows: RESOLUTION NO. 331 A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE RETURNS OF A SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 4TH DAY OF MAY, 1971, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR FROM THE CITY AT LARGE AND THREE (3) COUNCILMEN FROM THE RESPECTIVE DISTRICTS NOS. TWO (2), THREE (3), AND SIX (6) TO SERVE REGULAR TWO YEAR TERMS FINDING THAT NOTICE OF SAID ELECTION WAS DULY AND PROPERLY GIVEN AND THAT SAID ELECTION WAS PROPERLY HELD AND THE RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS. Outgoing Councilmen Don M. Hullum and Lamar Kelley expressed their appreciation for the cooperation and support each received during his tenure of office, and each pledged to continue serving the City in whatsoever capacity he may be asked to serve. Councilman Kloesel moved to commend the three out- going council members for the service rendered the community, and for the cooperation given the entire council in its attempt to build a better Baytown. Councilman Cannon seconded the motion.
