1969 10 01 CC MinutesI r r 4712 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN October 1, 1969 The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in special session on Wednesday, October 1, 1969 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Room of the Baytown City Hall with the following members in attendance: Leonard Stasney Councilman Lamar Kelley Councilman Allen Cannon Councilman C. Glen Walker Mayor D. R. Voelkel City Manager W. R. Laughlin City Attorney Edna Oliver City Clerk Absent: Ted Kloesel Councilman Don M. Hullum Councilman The Mayor called the meeting to order and the Invocation was offered. Mayor Walker stated that the purpose of the meeting was to canvass the returns of the Special Election held on September 23, 1969 as set forth in the Charter of the City of Baytown. Canvass Election Returns - Resolution Me returns of the special election held on September 23, 1969 on the question of adoption of a one per cent local sales and use tax within the City of Baytown were canvassed by the Council as set forth in the Charter. Following the verification of the election totals from the several precincts and the absentee vote, City Attorney Laughlin introduced and read a resolution declaring the results of the election and declaring the adoption of the local sales and use tax. Councilman Stasney moved to adopt the resolution as read. Councilman Cannon seconded the motion. The vote follows: Ayes: Councilmen Stasney, Cannon, and Kelley Mayor Walker Nays: None The caption of the resolution follows: RESOLUTION NO. 273 RESOLUTION AND ORDER CANVASSING RETURNS AND DECLARING RESULTS OF SPECIAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, ON SEPTEMBER 23, 1969, ON THE QUESTION OF ADOPTION OF A ONE PERCENT (le) LOCAL SALES AND USE TAX WITHIN SAID CITY Adjourn There being no further business to come before the Council, the motion was made and seconded that the meeting adjourn.
