In the Base Bid, the contractor furnishes all labor, materials, equipment, etc.. to
complete the job. Alternate No. 1, same as base bid with monolithic concrete pipe
and Alternate 2, the City furnishes the pipe and the contractor furnishes other ne-
cessary appurtenances for completion of project. Stephens Contracting Company was
low bidder on both the Base Bid and Alternate No. 2. If the City selects Alternate
No. 2, it would save $2,244.00 by furnishing the pipe. Mr. Stephens verbally agreed
to absolve the City by any delays that might be caused by the City's supplier being
negligent in deliveries of pipe; this could be reduced to writing.. Councilman Fanestiel
felt that there may be a problem in coordinating the delivery of pipe as the job pro-
gresses. Also, it was mentioned that any breakage occuring after delivery is made to
job site should be chargeable to the contractor, not the City. Mr. Busch stated that
he felt the contractor would accept this responsibility. After some further discussion,
Councilman Massey moved to award the contract to Stephens Contracing Company on the
basis of Alternate No. 2 bid subject to receipt of a letter accepting responsibility
for breakage after pipe has been delivered. Councilman Donnelly seconded the motion.
The vote follows:
Ayes: Councilmen Massey, Fanestiel and Donnelly

and seconded that the meeting adjourn. The ayes were unanimous and the Mayor declared
the meeting adjourned.
