OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
May 2. 1962
The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas met in special session on
Wednesday, May 2. 1%2. at 5:00 o'clock p.m. at the Goose Creek Country Club with
the following members in. attendance:

The Mayor called the meeting to order. the Invocation was offered by Counci-
man Bryan, afterwhich, the following business was transacted:
Resolution - Canvass Election Returns - Special Election, April 24th
Members of the City Council canvassed the returns of the Special municipal
Election held Tuesday, April 24th, afterwhich. the following resolution was in-
trdduced and read:
A RESOLUTION CANVASSING THE. RETURNS OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
HELD WITHIN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 24TH DAY OF APRIL, 1962, FOR
THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A COUNCILiIAN FROM DISTRICT NUMBER FOUR (4);
DECLARING THE RESULTS OF SAID ELECTION; FINDING THAT NOTICE OF SAID
ELECTION WAS,DULY AND PROPERLY GIVEN AND'THAT SAID ELECTION WAS
-� DULY AND: PROPERLY HELD AND THE RETURNS THEREOF MADE BY THE PROPER
OFFICIALS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF TEXAS.
WHEREAS, puruuant to Section 96, Article IX of the Charter of the City
of Baytown, the City Council of said City, at a special meeting held on this
the 2nd day of May, 1962. proceeded as required by law, to canvas the returns
of the Special Municipal Election held in the City of Baytown on the 24th dhy
of April, 1962, for the purpose of electing a Councilman from District Number
Four (4); and said election having been held under and pursuant to the provi-
sions of the Charter of said City and an Ordinance passed on the 11th day of
April, 1962, calling said Election; and.
WHEREAS. said Election having been duly and regularly had and held as
called in said Ordinance and according to law and the returns thereof having
been duly made and the Election Judges having certified the results of said
election as hereinafter set out and the City Council having duly and regularly
canvassed the returns of said Election and finding that the total votes cast
at said Election were as follows, to -wit:
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM DISTRICT NO. 4
Velma J. Ansley 1342 Votes
Herbert V. Herbert 1152 Votes
AND WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown finds the Election
returns as set out above to be accurate and correct and no Election Protest or
Contest having been filed with said Council or instituted in connection with
said Election, NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS:

Sectim 1: That Mrs. Velma Ansley received a majority of the votes cast
at said Election for the office of Councilman from District No. 4 and, accord-
ingly, the said Mrs. Velma Ansley is hereby declared elected to the office of
Councilman from District No. 4 of the City of Baytown.
Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Baytown further finds
that the notice of said Election was duly and properly given as required by law
and as provided in the Ordinance calling said Election and that said Election
was duly and regularly held and the returns thereof duly and regularly made by
the proper officials of said Election and in all things according to law.
INTRODUCED, BEAD and PASSED by the affirmative vote of a majority of the
members of the City Council of the City of Baytown, on this the 2nd day of Slay,
1%2.

Councilman Ward moved to adopt the resolution as read. Councilman Bryan
seconded the motion. The vote follows:
Ayes: Councilmen Cravey,
Mayor Clayton
Nays: None
Oath of Office - Councilman Ansley
Ward, Hansen, Ansley, Huron, Bryan
Robert Strickland, local Attorney, administered the Oath of office to
Velma J. Ansley, as Councilman from District No. 4 for the two (2) ensuing years.
Adiournment
Councilman Cravey moved that the meeting be adjourned. Councilman Ward
seconded the motion. The ayes were unanimous and the Mayor declared the meeting
adjourned.
