MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
April 17, 1962
The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas met in special session on
Tuesday, April 17, 1962 at 7:00 o'clock p.m. in the Chamber of Commerce Building
with the following members in attendance:

The Mayor called the meeting to order and the following business was trans-
acted:
Report - Baytown Nuclear Defense Committee C6"-,n:-
Councilman Hansen moved to accept the report of the Baytown Nuclear Defense
Committee and endorse their recommendation as a basis for future action in organ-
izing Baytown for nuclear attack. Councilman Ward seconded the motion. The vote
follows:
Ayes: Councilmen Cravey, Ward, Hansen, Ansley, Huron, Bryan
Mayor Clayton
Nays: None
Transfer Funds - Educational Material - Nuclear Defense
Councilman Ansley made a motion to authorize the City Manager to transfer
funds, if necessary, and to pay postage on mailing educational material on the
subject of nuclear defense to citizens of Baytown and East Harris County. Council-
man Hansen seconded the motion. The vote follows:

Ordinance - Accepting Work - West Main Street
City Manager Le Fevre introduced and read an ordinance receiving and accept-
ing the work of construction of permanent paving of West Main Street (Formerly
known as Goose Creek -Pelly Road); authorizing and directing the execution and issu-
ance of special assessment certificates to Brown F Root, Inc. Councilman Ward
moved to adopt the ordinance as read. Councilman Ansley seconded the motion. The
vote follows:
Ayes: Councilmen Cravey, Ward, Hansen, Ansley, Huron, Bryan

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, RECEIVING
AND ACCEPTING THE WORK OF CONSTRUCTION OF PERMANENT PAVING AND OTHER IM-
PROVEMENTS WITHIN THE FOLLOWING DEFINED PORTION OF WEST MAIN STREET (FCRIffER-
LY KNOWN AS GOOSE CREEK -PELLY ROAD) IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN; AUTHORIZING AND

DIRECTING THE EXECUTION AND ISSUANCE OF SPECIAL ASSESSMENT CERTIFICATES
TO BROWN & ROOT, INC. THE CONTRACTOR PERFORMING SAID WORK; APPROVING
THE FORM OF SUCH SPECIAL ASSESSMENT CERTIFICATES; AND PROVIDING FOR THE
EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
Appoint Members - Baytown Housing Commission
The Council unanimously agreed to accept the recommendation of the Mayor and
approved the appointment of J. Burt Davison and C. L. Thorpe as members of the Bay-
town Housing Commission for the two ensuing years, terms effective as of April 18,
1962. The appointment of the third commissioner will be decided upon at a later
date. 7
Adjournment
Councilman Ansley moved that the meeting be adjourned. Councilman Cravey
seconded the motion. The ayes were unanimous and the Mayor declared the meeting
adjourned.
