MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
September 28, 1956
The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in regular $ession on Thursday,
September 28, 1956, at 7 :00 o'clock p.m. in the Council Room of the Baytown City Hall,
with the following members in attendance: -

The Mayor called the meeting to order. Councilman Clayton moved to dispense with
the reading of the minutes of the regular meeting of September 13, 1956, and they be ap-
proved. Councilman Campbell seconded the motion. The roll call ate was as follows:

Report - HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT PLAN - WIDENING 146
4 Mayor Pruett gave a brief report on the plans of the State Highway Department for
major highway improvements in the City and immediate surrounding areas. The three major
projects were the widening of Decker Drive, the construction of the north loop from High-
way 146 to Spur 210 and the widening of Highway 146 from East Republic to Cedar Bayou
Road. He told the Council that the bond issues, which were recently approved, would not
provide sufficient monies for the purchase of all right- of-way easements needed, however,
he had been assured, in a recent meeting with the state highway and county officials, that
this area would get its share for easement purchases, proveded the Council approved the
City's expenditure of cooperation in the improvement projects. The Council took no action
on the report at this time, however, the Mayor was commended for his declaration in the
discussion.
Check - BAYTOWN HOUSING AUTHORITY
C. H. Olive, Treasurer of the Baytown Housing Authority, presented the Council with
a check in the amount of $1,085.19 in lieu of payment of taxes for the fiscal year ending
June, 1956. The Council accepted the check and congratulated Mr. Olive and other members
of the Board for their services rendered to the community by serving on the Baytown Housing
Authority Board.
Final Construction Approval - CRAIGMDNT PLACE SUBDIVISI
A revised plat m ap of the proposed Craigmont Place Subdivision was presented, by
Messrs. Ehrhardt and Morris, for Council observation and final construction approval. The
City Engineer and Director of Public Works informed the Councl that all changes, as outlined
and requested by the Council at its meeting Fpb-ruary 28, 1956, were included in the plat
map with the exception of the Sewage Treatment Plant which will be completed and ready for
service before the sectionalized portions are presented for final approval. Councilman
Clayton moved to grant final construction approval to the plans of Craigmont Place. Water
Control & Improvement District No. 58, as presented. Councilman Campbell seconded the
motion. The Roll Call Vote was as follows:

Shell - CIVIL AIR PATROL
Councilman Campbell moved to approve the expenditure of buying.distributing
and leveling 400 yards of shell on the runways of the Baytown Airport at the request
of the Civil Air Patrol. Councilman Bergeron seconded the motion. The roll call
vote was as follows:

Councilman Bergeron moved -to adopt an ordinance appropriating $1,124.30, from
th,e Unappropriated General Fund to pay salary for extra help at Corporation Court.
Termination and sick time leave pglice department and repairs to La Porte Fire Truck
damages in fighting fire .in Baytown. Councilman Lusk seconded the motion. The roll

Purchase Piano - CITY HALL ,
Councilman Lusk moved to approve an expenditure of $200.00 plus cost of an bd-
vertisement, to buy a used piano for City Hail use. Councilman Campbell seconded the
motion. The roll call vote was as follows:

The Mayor appointed a Committee composed of Edna Oliver, Gerald Landry and
Councilman Campbell to buy the piano.
MISCELLANEOUS
The City Manager reported that a walkway had been provided for school children
along Lacy Drive easement to the new James Bowie elementary school and the City
had spread a base material of shell for easier ingress and egress.
The Council instructed the City Manager to refer the travel pay request of Mrs.
Murray, in the amount of $3,000, to the City Attorney for study and an opinion as to
the recommended settlement.of the claim.
ADJOURNMENT
Councilman Lusk moved that the meeting adjourn. Councilman Swain seconded the
motion. The ayes were unanimous and the Mayor called the meeting adjourned.
