1956 01 18 CC Minutes, Special973 MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS January 18, 1956 The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met . in special session on Wednesday, January 18, 1956 at 7 o'clock p.m. in the Council Room of the Baytown City Hall with the following members in attendance: P. H. Mears Councilman R. B. Bergeron Councilmen H. M. Campbell Councilman M. L. Campbell Councilman Al Clayton Councilman Lacy Lusk Councilman R. H. Pruett Mayor C. D. Middleton City Manager George Chandler City Attorney Absents Edna Oliver City Clerk The Mayor called the meeting to order and the following business was trans- acted: Ordinance - Election - Federal Housing An ordinance was presented and read setting the date of Saturday, March 24, 1956 as the date for the special election on the federal public housing issue. Since this 1s to be an official election the council agreed to abide by the wishes of the majority on the question of more federal housing for Baytown. Councilman H. M. Campbell moved to adopt the ordinance as read. Councilmen Lusk seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows Roll Call: Ayes: Councilman Mears Nays: None " Bergeron " H. M. Campbell " M. L. Campbell " Clayton " Lusk Mayor Pruett The caption of the ordinance follows: ORDINANCE NO. 308 AN ORDINANCE ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD IN THE CITY OF BAYTOWN ON THE 24TH DAY OF MARCH, 1956, FOR THE PURPOSE OF APPROVING OR DISAPPROVING ADDITIONAL FEDERAL PUBLIC HOUSING FOR BAYTOWN; PROVIDING FOR ELECTION OFFICERS; DESIGNATING THE PLACES AND WNNH OF HOLDING SAID ELECTION: PRESCRIBING THE HOURS AND PROVIDING FOR THE POSTING AND PUBLICATION OF NOTICE. Sale - Fire Station Building - Minnesota Street The City Manager informed the council that he had been approached on the possibility of the city selling the building on Minnesota Street which was formerly used as Fire Station No. 2, now being used only as a Sub -Water Station. After some discussion Councilman Clayton moved to advertise for bids on the sale of the building, stipulating a $200 bid bond to be included with the bid presentation. Councilman H. M. Campbell seconded,.the motion. The roll call vote was as follows: Roll C °11: Ayes: Councilman Mears Nays: None " Bergeron " H. M. Campbell " M. L. Campbell " Clayton " Lusk Mayor Pruett Mayor Pruett appointed a Committee composed of Councilmen Bergeron, Lusk and Mears to make a study of the proposed sale and to make a recommendation to the Council of an equitable sale price. alp Aooronriation - Fire Ecuinment - Cedar Bayou Councilman H. M. Campbell moved to approve the appropriation of $300 to pay the indebtedness owned by the Cedar Bayou Volunteer Fire Department on a water pumper which was destroyed by fire recently. He also moved to approve an additional $475.00 appropriation to replace pumper for the Cedar Bayou area. Councilman Clayton seconded the motion. Campbell Clayton " Lusk Mayor Pruett Material Bids.- ReJected - Readvertise The material bids, for the Department of Public Works, which were received, opened and tabulated with further action tabled at the regular meeting of December 13, 1955 were discussed at length, afterwhich, it was decided to reject all bids; the City Manager was, further instructed to draw up a set of specific specifications on all materials, such as water meters, water pipe, water meter boxes, etc and readvertise for bids. Adjournment Councilman H. M. Campbell moved for the meeting to adjourn. CouncUm Mears seconded the motion. The ayes were unanimous and the Mayor declared the meeting adjourned. . H.
