1956 01 12 CC MinutesACJ; MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,TEXAS January 12, 1956 The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas met in regular session on Thursday, January 12, 1956 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Room of the Baytown City Hall with the following Members in attendance. Middleton City Manager George Chandler City Attorney Absent: Edna Oliver City Clerk Mayor Pruett called the meeting to order. Councilman hi.L. Campbell moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the last regular meeting and that they be approved. Councilman Mears seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows: Roll Call: Ayes: Councilman Mears Nayes: None Bergeron " M.L. Campbell Lusk " Clayton H.M. Campbell Mayor Pruett FINAL APPROVAL OF SECTION 1 OF CENTRAL HEIGHTS SUBDIVISION A motion was made by Councilman Bergeron and seconded by Councilman H.M. Camp- bell to grant final approval to Section 1 of Central Heights Subdivision upon presentation of a cashier's check for $6,000.00 to the City by Mr. Ike Lerner in escrow as a guarantee to complete certain projects, Roll Call vote was as follows: Roll Call: Ayes: Councilman Mears Nayes: None Bergeron " M.L. Campbell " Lusk " Clayton " H.M. Campbell Mayor Pruett NAMING OF STREETS IN CASEY TRACT A motion was made by Councilman N.M. Campbell to name two unnamed streets in Casey Tract Clayton Drive and Weed Road. The motion was seconded by Councilman Bergeron, Roll Call vote was as follows: Roll Call: Ayes: Councilman Mears Nayes: None Bergeron M.L. Campbell Lusk Clayton H.M. Campbell Mayor Pruett RESOLUTIONS: The City Manager introduced and read the following resolutions: A RESOLUTION BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN TO TRANSFER TWO .HUNDRED FORTY NINE ($249,00) DOLIARS FROM THE "WATER" BUDGET ITEM 1002 Z -4, TO CLASSIFICATIONS "WATER" BUDGET ITEM 1003 Z -4. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN. TEXAS: THAT the City Council of the City of Baytown hereby resolves that the City Manager of the City of Baytown be authorized to transfer two hundred forty nine ($249:00) dollars from the "Water" Budget Item 1002 Z -4, to the "Water" Budget Item 1003 z -4. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS; THAT the City Council of the City of Baytown hereby resolves that the City Manager of the City of Baytown be authorized to transfer Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars from the "Police" Budget Item 201 z -4 to the " WAter" Budget Item 1003 z -4. Campbell Pruett 'yc; 9 APPROPRIATION ORDINANCE The City Manager introduced and read an appropriation ordinance transferring Two Thousand Three Hundred and Thirteen ($2.313.00) Dollars from the Council Contingent Fund to various other classifications as indicated in the caption. Motion was made by Councilman M.L. Campbell and seconded by Councilman Mears that the ordinance be approved. Campbell Mayor Pruett The caption of the ordinance follows: AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN TO TRANSFER TWO THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED AND THIR- TEEN ($2.313.00) DOLLARS FROM THE COUNCIL CONTINGENT FUND TO BE APPLIED AS FOLLOWS: ONE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY ($1.750:00) DOLLARS TO CLASSIFICATION 401 E -2. TWO HUNDRED ($200.00) DOLLARS TO CLASSIFICATION F4 -A. ONE HUNDRED FIFTY ($150.00) DOLLARS TO CLASSIFICATION 106 E -4. TWO HUNDRED THIRTEEN ($213.00) DOLLARS TO CLASSIFICATION 201 E -4. ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION TO CITY ENGINEER Councilman Clayton made a motion to the effect that A.J. Busch, City Engineer. was to be given sixty (60) gallons of gasoline monthly. Campbell Mayor Pruett APPROVAL OF PAYMENT TO MANN ESTATE A motion was made by Councilman H.M. Campbell to pay the Mann Estate a sum equal to all deliquent ad valorem taxes through 1954 as follows: Year ariQinal tax ipenaltX interest total 1953 $ 193.41 $ 15.47 $ 23.21 $232.09 1954 193.41 15.47 11.60 220.48 TOTAL $452.57 plus $500.00 for the Sanitary Sewer easement through their property. Campbell Mayor Pruett PAYMENT OF FEES TO JOS, J. RADY & COMPANY A motion was made by Councilman Lusk to pay the Jos. J. Rady G Company the sum of One Thousand Two Hundred Fifty and 1 /lOOths ($1.250.01) for engineering fees they submitted for the Maryland Street Sanitary Sewer and the Martin Ditch Projects. The motion was seconded by Councilman H.M. Campbell. Roll call vote was as follows: Roll Call: Ayes: RED TOP CAB COMPANY Councilman Mears " Bergeron " M.L. Campbell " Clayton " Lusk " H.M. Campbell Mayor Pruett Nayes: None M Tex Martin of the Red Top Cab Company appeared before the council and requested permission for an sub - terminal in old Baytown. Mayor Pruett referred his request to Chief of Police, Roy Montgomery, for action. HEARING ON REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL PUBLIC HOUSING After lengthy discussion of both view points on the advantages and disadvantages of additional public housing, a motion was made by Councilman M.L.Campbell and seconded by Councilman Bergeron, that Mayor Pruett be authorized to call a election as provided by law, to determine whether the people of Baytown want additional public housing.
