1953 10 27 CC MinutesMINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOW;V, TEXAS October 27, 1953 The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas met in regular session on Tuesday, October 27, 1953 at 7:30 p. m. in the Council Room of the Baytown City Hall with the following members in attendance: Absent: R. Middleton Mayor Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Councilman Acting City Manager City Attorney City Clerk Councilman City Manager The Mayor called the meeting to order and the minutes of the regular meeting of October 13th and the special meeting of October 22nd were read and approvd4, whereupon, the following business was transacted: Receiver - Radio Upon receipt of a letter from Glen Rose, Captain, Texas Highway Patrol - Houston District, Councilman H. M. Campbell moved to authorize the Chief of Police to purchase a radio receiver, at the most economical price, to place in State Unit 315 -D, provided the city is furnished with a letter from the State saying such a receiver reverts back to the city in the event the above unit is removed from this area. L. Campbell moved to authorize purchase of the 1953 Ford pick- up 6- cylinder, from Thad Felton at a cost of $1,1911.63. This truck will be used in the electrical Inspection Department. Campbell Authorize - Traffic Light - 4th and East Texas Councilman M. L. Campbell moved to approve the purchase and installation of a traffic light at the intersection of Fourth and East Texas Avenue near the Ashbel Smith School. Campbell moved to abolish the present eligibility list of the Civil Service Commission and ordered a new examination and the preparation of a new eligibility list. Campbell Cook - Water and Street John Cook, asked the Council to furnish water service and ingress and a gress to his home he is building off Highway 146. He explained that his property line went to a proposed 60 -foot right -of -way, known as 10th street, which was dedicated to the County several years ago but never improved. He estimated that it would take approximately 300 feet of 211 pipe to furnish his hoarse with water service but sewer service was available upon receipt of the required tapping fee. The Mayor informed Mr. Cook that the city could furnish only 100 feet of pipe, whereupon, Mr. Cook proposed to buy all pipe in excess of the 100 feet furnished by the city if the city would make installation of the complete footage requirements. He also asked that 10th Street be cut down and proper drainage provided with a shell base laid to his home. Councilman Reeves moved to approve the city making installation of the approximate 300 feet of 2" water main upon receipt of the required water and sewer tapping fees; the City to furnish only 100 feet of the 211 pipe and Mr. Cook, at his own expense,. to furnish the additional pipe to complete the job. Grantham will prepare an estimate on the cost of opening 10th street and the approximate amount of shell needed to service tlr. Cook. This will be presented at a later meeting. Additional Salary Adjustments Councilman Reeves moved to adjust the salaries of the following employees: A. J. Ogden from $310.00 to 6335.00 H. L. filexander from $229.71 to $248.80. G. C.
