"'MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE
CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS
May 5, 1949
The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, met in regular session on
May 5, 1949, at 7s30 p.m. in the council room of the Baytown City Hall with the
following members in attendances

The mayor called the meeting to order and the minutes of the regular meeting of
April 20, 1949, were read and approved, whereupon the following business was trans-
acted-
Lee Heights Water Line Bids
The bids for lee }eights water line and the water main connection between Wynne-
wood and Bennie Gray Additions are tabulated as follows:
Ed Niles - Pipe in place $3.00 L. F. Fire Hydrants $33.00 ea.
J. H. Britt -Pipe in place 3.10 L. F. Fire Hydrants 35.00 ea.
Brown and Root, Inc. Pipe and fire hydrants $5.75 L. F.
Councilman Stroud moved to accept the bid of Fd Niles. Councilman Godfrey
seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows:

Garbage Truck Bids
The bids on a two (2) ton garbage truck were opened and they are tabulated as
follows:

Councilman Pruett moved to accept the bid of Thad Felton if the bid submitted
was an F-6 truck; if not, the bid was to go to J. B. Holloway the next lowest bidder.
Councilman Godfrey seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows:

San Jacinto Hospital Bus Route
A representative of the Gulf Transit Company gave a report on the loss sustained
by the company on the San Jacinto Hospital Route. He asked permission to discontinue
tine route if the personnel of the hospital or the patients could not be persuaded to
use the bus. Mr. Dickey, the general administrator of the hospital, informed the
council that he was not aware that they were not using the bus service as many of them
had no other means of conveyance. The representative told the council the bus com-
pany would be willing to continue the route if something could be done about the
Bayshore Bus Line picking nip passengers within the city limits. Cony of the passen-

gers picked up by the Bayshore were customers of the Gulf Transit and the hospital
route delayed the schedule ten minutes. Mr. Murray Rogers, manager of the Bayshore
Bus Company was present and he informed the council he was willing to cooperate but
that there were difficulties in enforcing a regulation of this kind. After some dis-
cussion Councilman Pruett moved to table all discussion until the new council and
mayor have taken office. Councilman Godfrey seconded the motion. The roll call vote
was as follows: -

Merrell Park Disposal Plant Rehabilitation Bid
Councilman Godfrey moved to accept the one bid from Ed Niles, contractor, on the
rehabilitation of the Morrell Park Disposal Plant at a bid price of $4,500. council-
man Pruett seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows:

Depository Bids Opened
Bids were submitted by the Peoples State Bank, First National Bank and Citizens
National Bank and Trust Company on the City Depository advertisement. Councilman
Stroud moved to accept the bid submitted by the Citizens National Bank and Trust
Company. Councilman Pruett seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows:

Sveeper Bids
The street sweeper bids were opened and they are tabulated as follows:
1. McCall Machinery Supply Company $6,300.00
2. Hi -Way Equipment Company, Inc. 7,181.50
Councilman Stroud moved to reject all bids on the sweeper. Councilman Williams
seconded the motion. The roll Call vote was as follows:

Relief Sewer Line Bids
Bids were submitted on construction of a sanitary sewer relief line on Market
Street by Ed Niles and J. H. Britt. On inspection of the bids it was noticed they
differed in concrete pipe footage, wyes and manholes. Councilman Godfrey moved to
table all bids and readvertise. Councilman Williams seconded the motion. The roll
call vote was as follows:

Jaycee Safety Committee Request
Permission was given the Jaycee Safety Committee to proceed with its installa-
tion of a string of white lights over Texas Avenue, from the Houston Lighting and
Power Company to the First National Bank, as a traffic accident reminder.
Councilman Pruett moved that the meeting adjourn. Councilman Godfrey seconded
the motion. The ayes were unanimous and the mayor declared the meeting adjourned.
