1950 03 02 CC Minutes2337 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS March 2, 1950 The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas met in regular session on Thursday, March2, 1950 at 7:30 p. m. in the Council Room of the Baytown City Hall with the follow- ing members in attendance: J. A. Ward Mayor R. B. Bergeron Councilman 4 H. I. Davis Councilman Easy Godfrey Councilman R. H. Pruett Councilman J. A. Stroud Councilman W. C. Williams Councilman C. Darwin Middleton City Manager David Donoghue City Attorney Edna Oliver City Clerk The Mayor called the meeting to order, and the minutes of the regular meeting of February 16, 1950 and the special meeting of February 20, 1950 were read and approved whereupon the following business was transacted: Mrs. A� N. Johnson - Baytown's Society for Crippled Children After hearing an appeal by Mrs. A. N. Johnson, Health Nurse, for a crippled children's treatment center Councilman Pruett moved to instruct the City Attorney to prepare a five (5) year lease contract on city property. The Cerebral Palsy League will erect a building at -no cost to the city. Councilman Bergeron seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows: Roll Call, Ayes: Mayor Ward Nays: None Councilman Bergeron " Godfrey " Pruett Stroud !' Williams Revision of North Shore Railway Company License Councilman Bergeron moved to approve the application of the Houston North Shore Railway on a revision of license dated April 1, 1945 with the City of Pelly; the 1950 city tax to be prorated in accordance with the grantind of the request. Toe proposal will shift an old spur and provide team track space. Councilman Stroud seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows: Roll Calls Ayes: Mayor Ward Nays: None Councilman Bergeron " Godfrey " Pruett " Stroud " Williams Milk Ordinance (.( Action was postponed on the proposed milk ordinance. r ` Miscelleanous �14 The fifth grade students of the Alamo Elementary School were recognized as guests of the council meeting. The City Manager reported that a detailed report would be submitted by W. E. Ehrhardt on his drainage survey of Baytown at the next regular meeting of the Council, also the prr.e ess on the water tower rehabilitation in old Baytown was satisfactory. The Council gave instructions to start proceedings to clean out the drainage ditch adjoining Dr. Clyde W. Spear's property on West Texas Avenue. Also, authority was extended the City Manager to have small culverts removed where the drainage is blocked, and larger replacements made at the expense of the property owner. 049 Miscelleanous- Continued Upon the recommendation of Councilmen Pruett and Stroud, Councilman Bergeron moved to approve the installation of a street light at the Nazarene Church in Stewart Heights and one at the intersection of Market and Minnesota Streets. Councilman Godfrey seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows: Roll Call: Ayes: Mayor Ward Nays: None Councilmam Godfrey It Pruett It Stroud to Williams It Bergeron _ Ordinance No. 75 The City Attorney introduced and read an ordinance .which cancelled and vacated public utility easements on portions of Lots 7 and 26 of Block 13 Airhart Addition. Councilman Godfrey moved to adopt the ordinance as read. Councilman Bergeron seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows: Roll Call: Ayes: Mayor Ward Nays: None Councilman Bergeron " Godfrey " Pruett " Stroud " Williams The caption of the ordinance was as Sollogs: ORDINANCE NO. 75 AN ORDINANCE CANCELLING AND VACATING PUBLIC UTILITY EASE- MENTS CREATED IN DEDICATION OF THE NORTH PART OF BLOCK 13 AND WEST HALF OF BLOCK 17 OF THE AMELIA Z. AIRHARf_ADDITIGN TC BAYTCo?h IN THE WILLIAM SCOTT UPPER LEAGUE, HARtaS COUNTY, TEXAS, INSOFAR AS SAID EASEMENTS AFFECT A PORTION OF LOTS 7 AND 28 IN SAID BLOCK 13. W Councilman Davis entered the meeting. Society of Professional Chemists and Engineers The Mayor instructed the City Attorney to read a letter from R. B. Bennett, president of the Society of Professional Chemists and Engineers, who offered aid to the city in the nompiling of an electrical ordinance. The Council expressed its thanks to C. E. Cunningham and % C. Lyles, representatives of the Society, and arranged a meeting for Monday night, March 6, 1950. Safety Meeting - Dallas _ Councilman Godfrey moved to approve sending Chief of Police McKee and Corpora- tion Judge Hunter to the 11th Annual Safety Meeting of the Texas Safety Association in Dallas on March 6th and 7th. Councilman Williams seconded the motion. The roll call vote was as follows: Roll Call: Ayes: Mayor Ward Nays: None Councilman Bergeron a Davis of Godfrey Pruett to Stroud It Williams Adjournment Councilman Bergeron moved to adjourn.
