The elections line item has $29,469.10 and will need the additional monies to cover the costs of the deposits, some translations, educational materials and other miscellaneous cost in this year's budget, which is why staff is requesting the $30,000 transfer. He noted that the increases in costs are due in part by (1) an increase in registered voters, which is used to calculate the Harris County portion of the election costs, (2) the addition of the county -wide polling places (800 locations) on Election Day, and (3) the additional week of early voting (100 locations) with extended hours for a total of three weeks of early voting versus just two weeks. Mr. Troller stated that next year's budget has $60,000 budgeted for elections, so there is sufficient monies for any expenses after September 30th, staff just needs the additional monies to get through the rest of the fiscal year and any monies not used, will roll over to next year.
