Ordinance No. 14,561ORDINANCE NO. 14,561 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND ENTER INTO A JOINT ELECTION AGREEMENT WITH HARRIS COUNTY FOR THE RUNOFF ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE 12T" DAY OF DECEMBER, 2020, UNDER TERMS AND CONDITIONS ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY MANAGER AND THE CITY ATTORNEY; AUTHORIZING PAYMENT THEREFOR IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED FIFTEEN THOUSAND AND NOI100 DOLLARS ($15,000.00); AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. ******************************************************************************************** WHEREAS, the City of Baytown is holding a runoff election on December 12, 2020, for the purpose of electing council members for Council Districts Five (5) and Six (6) of the City of Baytown; and WHEREAS, Harris County is holding runoff elections for various entities within its jurisdiction and is agreeable to holding the runoff election for the City of Baytown under the terms and conditions of a joint election agreement; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 271.002 of the Texas Election Code, the terms of the joint election include the City agreeing to pay a portion of the County's election costs in exchange for the County: ➢ providing the voting equipment and supplies for early voting by personal appearance and mail and for election day for the runoff election; ➢ providing election workers; ➢ setting up the polling places; ➢ serving as the Early Voting Ballot Board; ➢ programming and operating the automatic tabulating equipment; and ➢ establishing and organizing the Central Counting Station; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, hereby authorizes the City Manager to negotiate and enter into a joint election agreement with Harris County for the runoff election to be held on the 12" day of December, 2020, under terms and conditions acceptable to the City Manager and the City Attorney. Section 2: That the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, authorizes payment to Harris County in an amount not to exceed FIFTEEN THOUSAND AND NO 100 DOLLARS ($15,000.00), pursuant to the agreement identified in Section 1 hereof. Section 3: This ordinance shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
