CC Resolution No. 1124 2020 RESOLUTION NO. 1124 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, EXPRESSING OPPOSITION TO REDISTRICTING PLANS THAT WILL PLACE THAT PORTION OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN WHICH IS LOCATED WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF HARRIS COUNTY IN TWO SEPARATE U. S. CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICTS; AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. **************************************************************** WHEREAS, pursuant to the 1990 census, U. S. Congressional District lines, as they affect the City of Baytown, are subject to redistricting; and WHEREAS , that portion of the City of Baytown which is located within the boundaries of Harris County, Texas has been situated in U. S. Congressional District No. 8 and served by the same U. S. Congressman for over 10 years; and WHEREAS, the City of Baytown has successfully coordinated and worked with the Representative from said Congressional District in obtaining federal funds and participating in federal programs to the benefit of the entire City of Baytown; and WHEREAS, placing that portion of the City of Baytown which is located within the boundaries of Harris County, Texas within two U. S. Congressional Districts would dilute the ability of the citizens of the City of Baytown to influence federal government policy as a single community of interest; and WHEREAS, placing that portion of the City of Baytown which is located within the boundaries of Harris County, Texas in two separate U . S . Congressional Districts would create geographically distorted congressional districts; NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown opposes any redistricting plans that will place that portion of the City of Baytown which is located within the boundaries of Harris County, Texas in two separate congressional districts. Section 2 : This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown. 2021 INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 20th day of August, 1991. 6 ETT O.
