RESOLUTION NO. 1111
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO CREATE A METROPOLITAN
TRANSIT AUTHORITY FOR THE CITY OF BAYTOWN.
WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 1139 has been proposed in the Texas
Legislature supporting the creation of a Metropolitan Transit
Authority within the City of Baytown; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 1139 provides the option of
creating a Metropolitan Transit Authority to the citizens of
Baytown through a public vote; and
WHEREAS, a mass transit system would provide low cost
transit needs for the elderly, low income, handicapped, as well
as all citizens; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 1139 is structured in a manner to
secure local control of the mass transit operation; and
WHEREAS, local control will result in a more efficient cost-
effective method of operation.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown
supports the legislation to create a Metropolitan Transit
Authority for the City of Baytown.
Section 2 : This Resolution shall become effective from and
after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 14th day of March,
1991.
