RESOLUTION NO. 1106
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS , SUPPORTING OUR COALITION TROOPS IN THE MIDDLE
EAST AND DEMANDING HUMANE TREATMENT OF PRISONERS OF WAR.
WHEREAS, "Operation Desert Storm" has begun its fifth week
without any hope for real peace; and
WHEREAS, more than a million troops are pitted against one
another, willing to follow their leaders even into certain death;
and
WHEREAS , the most powerful military force in history is
assembled around the Persian Gulf; and
WHEREAS, our men and women continue to serve with patriotic
valor despite the risks; and
WHEREAS, the potential exists for the catastrophic loss of
life; and
WHEREAS, a number of coalition personnel have been captured
and are currently being held as prisoners of war under conditions
which violate the Geneva Convention; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown,
Texas, declares its support for and gratitude and pride in the
coalition forces in the Middle East.
Section 2 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown,
Texas, demands that all prisoners of war be treated in accord
with the Geneva Convention.
Section 3 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown,
Texas, offers their prayer for their safe return.
Section 4 : This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown , this the 14th day of
February, 1991.
