CC Resolution No. 1099 1976 RESOLUTION NO. 1099 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, RECOGNIZING, COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING EXXON CHEMICAL AMERICAS UPON ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY. **************************************************************** WHEREAS, the Baytown Ordinance Works , which would later become known as Exxon Chemical Americas, first began operating in 1940; and WHEREAS, in honor of the 50th anniversary of Exxon Chemical Americas, the City Council of the City of Baytown wishes to recognize the numerous achievements of the chemical plant; and WHEREAS , the Baytown Ordinance Works began operation as government owned butyl and toluene plants constructed and operated by Humble Oil and Refining Company; and WHEREAS, the Baytown Ordinance Works contributed heavily to the war effort during World War II , producing the first commercial synthetic toluene and supplying nearly half of this nation's toluene during the war; and WHEREAS, Humble Oil and Refining Company purchased these government plants in 1955; an WHEREAS, the chemical plant separated from the refinery and became Enjay Chemical Company in 1965 and later, Exxon Chemical Company USA in 1973 ; and WHEREAS, Exxon Chemical Company USA merged with its Latin American affiliate to become Exxon Chemical Americas in 1980; and WHEREAS , the existence and operation of Exxon Chemical Americas has contributed significantly to the growth and development of the City of Baytown and the chemical industry around the world; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1 : That the City of Baytown hereby recognizes , commends and extends its congratulations to Exxon Chemical Americas upon its 50th anniversary, and expresses its thanks for the many contributions made to this community by the chemical plant. Section 2 : This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown. 1977 INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council of the City of Baytown , this the 13th day of September, 1990.
