RESOLUTION NO. 1098
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO MAKE APPLICATION
TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC
TRANSPORTATION FOR A TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT GRANT ; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas,
recognizes that it is in the interest of the national economy to
promote the conservation of energy resources and to reduce our
nation's dependence on costly foreign oil; and
WHEREAS, the proposed traffic management project will
provide benefits to the local community in the form of improved
traffic flow, reduced fuel consumption , reduced vehicle
operational costs, reduced air pollutant emissions, and improved
safety due to smoother traffic flow; and
WHEREAS , funds have been established and are available
through the State Department of Highways and Public
Transportation for grants to local governments for traffic
management projects; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City Manager of the City of Baytown is
hereby authorized to make application to the State Department of
Highways and Public Transportation for a Traffic Management Grant
for $60, 210. 00 which represents 75% of the project cost, the City
of Baytown supplying $20 , 722 . 00 in cash and in-kind service
match, for a total project cost of $81 , 000 . 00 for a traffic
signal improvement project on Garth Road.
Section 2 : This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED, by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown , this the 13th day of
September, 1990.
