RESOLUTION NO. 1071
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, CONFIRMING THE DECLARATION BY THE ASSISTANT
EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND PREPAREDNESS DIRECTOR OF THE
EXISTENCE OF AN EMERGENCY ON THE 15TH DAY OF OCTOBER,
1989.
WHEREAS, on October 15, 1989, Hurricane Jerry approached the
Baytown area; and
WHEREAS, several tornadoes touched down in the Baytown area
resulting in substantial damage and the area was threatened with
significant risk of flooding and wind damage; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the aforementioned tornadoes and
flooding, and of the possible evacuation, and attendant security
problems, the Assistant Emergency Management and Preparedness
Director deemed it advisable to declare an emergency without
delay; and
WHEREAS, City Council is of the opinion that an emergency
did, in fact exist; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1 : That the City Council hereby confirms action
taken by the Assistant Emergency Management and Preparedness
Director in declaring the existence of an emergency on the 15th
day of October, 1989 .
Section 2 : This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 24th day of
October, 1989.
