CC Resolution No. 10661902 RESOLUTION NO. 1066 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, CONFIRMING THE DECLARATION BY THE ASSISTANT EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND PREPAREDNESS DIRECTOR AND THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND PREPAREDNESS COORDINATOR OF THE EXISTENCE OF AN EMERGENCY ON THE 1ST DAY OF AUGUST, 1989. WHEREAS, on August 1, 1989, Hurricane Chantal approached the Baytown area; and WHEREAS, the Baytown area was threatened with high winds capable of producing substantial damage and was also threatened with possible heavy rainfall and significant risk of flooding; and WHEREAS, as a result of the aforementioned threats, it was necessary to prepare for the evacuation of low lying areas and to respond to possible flooding and wind related hazards; and WHEREAS, as a further result of the aforementioned threat of high winds and flooding, and of the possible evacuation, and attendant security problems, the assistant Emergency Management and Preparedness Director and the Emergency Management and preparedness Coordinator deemed it advisable to declare an emergency without delay; and WHEREAS, City Council is of the opinion that an emergency did, in fact exist; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the City Council hereby confirms action taken by the Assistant Emergency Management and Preparedness Director and the Emergency Management and Preparedness Coordinator in declaring the existence of an emergency on the 1st day of August, 1989. Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
