RESOLUTION NO. 1055
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT THE WEST MAIN STREET BRIDGE OVER
GOOSE CREEK BE NAMED THE PERRY SIMMONS BRIDGE; AND
PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, the West Main Street Bridge over Goose Creek will
soon be elevated, thereby providing for better utilization of
Goose Creek Stream by boaters, and also providing a safer route
across Goose Creek in times of flooding; and
WHEREAS, Councilman Perry Simmons has long advocated and
worked for the elevation of this bridge in order to achieve the
purposes stated above; and
WHEREAS, when it was first proposed to rebuild the West Main
Street Bridge, it was Perry Simmons idea and suggestion that the
City request financial assistance from Harris County for the
additional cost in elevating said bridge; and
WHEREAS, because of the idea and efforts of Councilman Perry
Simmons, in November of 1988 an agreement between Harris County
and the City of Baytown was approved to increase the height of
the West Main Street Bridge to 13.4 feet, and by means of this
agreement, the City of Baytown will save over two hundred
thousand dollars; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1: That the West Main Street Bridge over Goose
Creek is hereby named the Perry Simmons Bridge in honor of Mr.
Simmons ' efforts and contribution towards improving this bridge
for the benefit of all the citizens of Baytown, Texas.
Section 3 : This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, this the llth day of May,
1989.
