RESOLUTION NO. 1050
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, APPROVING THE PROJECTS CONTAINED IN THE
SUBMISSION OF BAYTOWN AREA WOMEN'S CENTER TO THE TEXAS
DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS FOR A TEXAS EMERGENCY
SHELTER GRANT; AUTHORIZING THE ADMINISTRATION TO CONDUCT
THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT REVIEW; AND PROVIDING FOR THE
EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.

WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown desires to
maintain a viable urban community, including the expansion the
quantity and improvement of the quality of emergency shelters for
the homeless; and
WHEREAS , the Baytown Area Women's Center is in need of
renovation in order to prevent the existing structure from
becoming a threat to the health and safety of the homeless,
battered women and their children who seek shelter at the center ;
and
WHEREAS , the Center is also in need of funds to be used in
basic operation and resettlement assistance; and
WHEREAS, it is necessary and in the best interests of the
City of Baytown to approve the Center 's applying for funding
under the Texas Emergency Shelter Grants Program to finance a
portion of these needs; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1: That the projects contained in the Texas
Emergency Shelter Grants Program application being filed by the
Baytown Area Women' s Center with the Texas Department of
Community Affairs are hereby approved, such projects being
general renovation, basic shelter operation, and resettlement
assistance.
Section 2: That the City Council hereby directs the
Administration to conduct the Environmental Impact Review that is
necessary to complete the Baytown Area Women' s Center
application.
Section 3: The local matching funds will be provided by the
salaries paid staff members of the Baytown Area Women' s Center .
Section 4: This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
