RESOLUTION NO. 1O48
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, ENCOURAGING SUPPORT OF THE PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS
TO THE HOUSTON SHIP CHANNEL AND PROVIDING FOR THE
EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF.
WHEREAS, the Port of Houston has been an economic catalyst
for the past seventy-five years , providing the benefits of deep
water navigation to the citizens of Harris County; and
WHEREAS, the Port of Houston began as Buffalo Bayou , a small
stream and has become the third largest port in the United States
since numerous improvements have been made in those seventy-five
years; and
WHEREAS, the Port of Houston now directly affects 28,000
Harris County jobs and indirectly affects 110 ,000 throughout the
State of Texas and has a $3 billion economic impact on our
State ' s economy; and
WHEREAS , the proposed improvements would directly affect
47 ,000 future Texas jobs in the next thirty years; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown is a city in Harris County,
Texas , with a population of 60 ,000 which is affected by Port of
Houston activity; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown is interested in the future
economic development of Harris County; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1 : That the City of Baytown, Texas, does hereby
endorse the proposed improvements to the Houston Ship Channel as
recommended by the Port of Houston Authority and the U.S. Army
Corps of Engineers.
Section 2 : The City Clerk is hereby authorized and directed
to send copies of this resolution to all the legislators
representing the Baytown area and to such other legislators the
administration deems appropriate.
Section 3 : This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.

City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 30th day of March,
1989.
