RESOLUEION NO. 1039
A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE PROPOSED FIFTY PERCENT (50% )
PAY INCREASE FOR CONGRESSMEN AND OTHER FEDERAL OFFICIALS
UNLESS VOTED BY CONGRESS.

WHEREAS, the Federal Commission on Executive Legislative and
Judicial Salaries has recommended a fifty percent (50% ) pay
increase for Congressmen and other federal officials; and
WHEREAS, the pay increase has been programmed to go into
effect without the requirement of a vote by Congress; and
WHEREAS, the current salary for members of Congress puts
them in the top one percent of all U.S. wage earners in 1987; NOW
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown,
Texas, hereby opposes the granting of a fifty percent (50% ) pay
increase for Congressmen and other federal officials without a
vote by the Congress.
Section 2 : The administration is hereby directed and
authorized to have copies of this resolution delivered to the
elected federal representatives for the City of Baytown and such
other individuals or groups that the administration may deem
appropriate or necessary to be made aware of the City of
Baytown' s concerns regarding the pay increase without a vote of
Congress.
Section 3 : This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 26th day of
January, 1989.
