RESOLUTION NO. 980
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
ENCOURAGING THE CONTRACTORS BUILDING THE FRED HARTMAN
BRIDGE TO USE STEEL AND WORKERS FROM THE TEXAS GULF
COAST AREA.

WHEREAS, the Texas Department of Highways and Public
Transportation has let a $91, 253, 931. 00 contract for construction
of the Fred Hartman Bridge over the Houston Ship Channel to
Williams Brothers Construction Company and Traylor Brothers ,
Inc . ; and
WHEREAS, the economy of the Texas Gulf Coast is suffering
from a loss of industrial production and construction employment;
and
WHEREAS, Williams Brothers and Traylors Brothers are
contractors whose home bases are Houston and Baton Rouge,
Louisiana and therefore have an interest in the economic well
being of the Texas Industrial Gulf Coast; NOW THEREFORE
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1: That the City of Baytown hereby encourages
Williams Brothers and Traylor Brothers to seek bids for steel
production, fabricating and erection only from producers and
employers in the Texas Gulf Coast and not use foreign steel or
foreign workers to produce steel for , to fabricate, or to erect
the Fred Hartman Bridge across the Houston Ship Channel.
Section 2: That the City Clerk is directed to send a copy
of this resolution to Williams Brothers , Traylor Brothers and the
Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation.
Section 3: This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 14th day of May,
1987.
