RESOLUTION NO. 976
A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE OF
THE FORMER U. S. POST OFFICE BUILDING TO THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN.
WHEREAS, the former U. S. Post Office Building located at
220 W. Defee was constructed in the year 1936 in the Town of
Goose Creek; and
WHEREAS, the architecture of the building is unique to the
era and the building contains the mural entitled "Texas
Progress, " painted by Barse Miller ; and
WHEREAS, the building was used as the main Post Office for
Baytown until 1985, and is now over fifty (50) years old , NOW
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1: That the former U. S. Post Office Building,
located at 220 W. Defee Street, Baytown, Texas, is hereby
declared to be historically significant to the City of Baytown,
Texas.
Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 12th day of March,
1987.
