CC Resolution No. 967 1735 RESOLUTION NO. 967 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, SUPPORTING PROPOSED LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD INCREASE THE MEMBERSHIP OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF THE PORT OF HOUSTON AUTHORITY FROM FIVE TO SEVEN MEMBERS, ALONG WITH OTHER RELATED MATTERS. WHEREAS, legislation has been drafted for introduction at the next session of the Texas Legislature which would increase the membership of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of Houston Authority from five to seven members ; and WHEREAS, this proposed legislation would provide that the Harris County Mayors ' and Councils ' Association appoint one member of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of Houston Authority; and WHEREAS, this proposed legislation would also provide that the members of the Harris County Mayors ' and Councils ' Association would be members of the Navigation Board of the Port of Houston Authority, along with the Commissioners Court of Harris County, Texas , and the Mayor and City Council of the City of Houston; and WHEREAS, the member of the Board of Commissioners to be appointed by the Harris County Mayors ' and Councils ' Association must reside in a city that is adjacent to the Houston Ship Channel; and WHEREAS, the appointment of a member to the Board of Commissioners by the Harris County Mayors ' and Councils ' Association would assure more adequate representation upon the Board of the Port of Houston Authority by smaller cities in Harris County than has been had in the past; and WHEREAS, the Board member appointed would be a direct representative to the citizens of the smaller cities that are adjacent to the Houston Ship Channel ; and WHEREAS, the Honorable Erwin Barton, State Representative, has agreed to sponsor this proposed legislation in the Texas House of Representatives ; and the Honorable Gene Green, State Senator , has agreed to sponsor this proposed legislation in the Texas Senate; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1 : The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, supports the proposed legislation which would increase the membership of the Board of Commissioners of the Port of Houston Authority from five to seven members, and supports all of the other related matters of this proposed legislation. 1736 Section 2 : The City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas urges and requests Honorable Ed Watson, State Representative; Honorable Dan Shelley, State Representative; Honorable Tony Polumbo, State Representative; and Honorable Gene Green, State Senator , to support the passage of the proposed legislation during the next session of the Texas Legislature. Section 3: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
