RESOLUTION NO. 965
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, ENCOURAGING CERTAIN CONTRACTORS DOING WORK FOR THE
CITY OF BAYTOWN TO HIRE AT LEAST TWENTY PERCENT (20%) OF
THEIR WORK FORCE FROM WITHIN THE BAYTOWN AREA; AND PROVIDING
FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE HEREOF.
WHEREAS, the declining economy of the State of Texas and
this area has resulted in a high unemployment rate in the Baytown
area; and
WHEREAS, many of these local unemployed people have talents
and skills that could be used by companies doing work for the
City of Baytown within the Baytown area; and
WHEREAS, it would be beneficial to these workers, the City
of Baytown, and contractors working for the City of Baytown, to
use this available pool of talented and skilled people; NOW
THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1: That the City Council of the City of Baytown,
Texas, hereby urges and requests that all bidders on public works
contracts in excess of $100, 000. 00 for the City of Baytown,
Texas, employ enough workers who reside within the Baytown area
so that such local workers shall comprise at least twenty percent
(20%) of the work force on such project. For the purposes of
this Resolution, a person shall be considered to reside in the
Baytown area if he lives within the extraterritorial jurisdiction
of the City of Baytown, Texas .
Section 2 : This ordinance shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 8th day of January,
1987.
