RESOLUTION NO. 963
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO THE MEMBERS OF THE
SESQUICENTENNIAL COMMISSION.
WHEREAS, the State of Texas celebrated the 150th anniversary
of its independence in 1986;
WHEREAS, 1986 was a year of celebration around the Lone Star
State and in the City of Baytown;
WHEREAS, the Baytown Sesquicentennial Commission was created
to make the citizens of Baytown aware of the Sesquicentennial and
involve them in the celebration;
WHEREAS, the members of the Baytown Sesquicentennial
Commission devoted their time and energies to the accomplishment
of the Commission ' s goals ;
WHEREAS, the Baytown Sesquicentennial Commission raised over
$65, 000.00 for the construction of Republic of Texas Plaza and
conducted the dedication thereof, NOW THEREFORE,
WHEREAS, the Baytown Sesquicentennial Commission
accomplished its goal by filling 1986 with celebrations ,
conducting events of historical significance, constructing
permanent markers, and most of all, involving the young and old
in the Sesquicentennial year ;
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS :
Section 1: That the members of the Baytown Sesquicentennial
Commission be recognized and commended for their efforts in
successfully involving the City and citizens of Baytown in our
States 's Sesquicentennial year .
Section 2 : This resolution shall take effect immediately
from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the
City Council of the City of Baytown, this the 8th day of January,
1987.
