CC Resolution No. 912 1648 RESOLUTION NO. 912 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, URGING AMENDMENT OF PROPOSED MASS TRANSIT LEGISLATION WHICH WOULD LIMIT THE ALTERNATIVES OF SOLVING MUNICIPAL TRANSIT PROBLEMS. ***�■*�**■rr*■*■*x*.**•*■*�r�r**��t+t*r■■s*�rrsr*�t�t**�t�rxxr*�r*.■*���rr*�-�t�rsa*a*�+*+�r WHEREAS, mass transit problems continue to mount across the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, solutions to mass transit problems require the active cooperation of state and local government; and WHEREAS, Legislation which would allow cities of 50,000 population or larger to, by referendum, establish a transit system supported by a local sales tax will assist in solving some of these problems; and WHEREAS, such legislation should not deny this opportunity to cities located within a federal standard metropolitan statistical area such as the City of Baytown; and WHEREAS, the City of Baytown is actively attempting to address such problems, but is separated by distance, other municipalities, and water, from a "principal city," and therefore should have every opportunity available to it to solve its mass transit problem; and WHEREAS, it is cities like Baytown which are more likely to have mass transit problems to be solved; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That the Texas Legislature is urged amend and modify proposed mass transit legislation which limits cities over 50,000 population ability to solve their mass transit problems when included with an area of a federal standard metropolitan statistical area. Section 2: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
