RESOLUTION NO. 899
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
SUPPORTING THE U. S. NAVY HOMEPORT PROPOSAL FOR THE
HOUSTON-GALVESTON BAY AREA.

WHEREAS, the U. S. Navy is searching for a "Homeport" for a Battleship
Surface Action Group (BSAG) on the Gulf Coast; and
WHEREAS, the B.S.A.G. would include a battleship, destroyer, cruiser and
three frigates, 500 Naval personnel, 250 civilian personnel, a $100 million
construction budget and a $50 to $60 million annual payroll; and
WHEREAS, the Houston-Galveston Bay Area's two million residents, industrial
and financial base, medical centers, schools, community colleges and universities,
single and multi-family dwellings, labor pool, recreational opportunities, engineering,
construction and manufacturing capabilities and accomplishments, are the envy of
the world; and
WHEREAS, the strategic location of the Houston-Galveston Bay Area and its
proximity to open sea and international ports are self evident; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS:
Section 1: That the City of Baytown enthusiastically supports the U. S. Navy
Homeport proposal for the Houston-Galveston Bay Area.
Section 2: That the City Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution
to the elected representatives to Congress from this area and the U. S. Navy
Homeport Study Team.
Section 3: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its
passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City
Council of the City of Baytown, this the 13th day of December, 1984.
