WHEREAS, there has been proposed the creation of a Rural Fire Prevention
District in the area north of Baytown, which would include the Gulf Oil Products
Company Plant; and
WHEREAS, the Commissioners Court of Harris County is required to
determine that the organization of a district would benefit the land included, and
aid in the conservation of the real property or natural resources within said district;
and
WHEREAS, Gulf Oil Company has its own fire fighting system and equipment
specially designed and trained for handling petrochemical fires, and
WHEREAS, such a district would not benefit the property of Gulf Oil
Products Company, nor conserve any of the real property or resources of the
Company within the proposed district; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown does not provide fire prevention under its
Industrial District Contract with Gulf Oil Products Company due to Gulf Oil
Products Company's ability to respond to its own specialized fire fighting needs; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown does not believe that it would be within the
intent of the statue creating rural fire districts to include Gulf Oil Products
Company within such a district; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
