CC Resolution No. 8801594 RESOLUTION NO. 880 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN SUPPORTING JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 243 OF THE U. S. CONGRESS. wax+r�-� ■�■*+*ra�rz-�r**�c xx-r»�r�ax-ra**+rr**x*■+r+r��r�r*+�.*.�-*xr*a*a+r�r*r�-�x•■■*■��.*�-�-�r WHEREAS, the federal debt has continued to grow in recent years, and has reached a staggering total; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown believes that continued deficit spending by the federal government will cause nationwide economic problems; WHEREAS, in the 97th Congress, Joint Resolution No. 243 the Balanced Budget/Tax Limitation Amendment to the U. S. Constitution was adopted by the Senate, but the House failed to approve the proposal; WHEREAS, the City of Baytown believes that passage of Joint Resolution No. 243 is in the best interests of the citizens of Baytown and the Nation; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: Section 1: That, the City of Baytown urges the 98th Congress to enact Joint Resolution No. 243, the Balanced Budget/Tax Limitation Amendment to the U. S Constitution. Section 2: That the City Clerk is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the elected representatives to Congress from this area. Section 3: This resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
