CC Resolution No. 845 1496 RESOLUTION NO . 845 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, CONFIRMING THE DECLARATION BY THE ASSISTANT EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND PREPAREDNESS DIRECTOR AND THE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND PREPAREDNESS COORDINATOR OF THE EXISTENCE OF A DISASTER ON THE 18TH DAY OF AUGUST, 1983. **##**********#***#****k**#*##*k###****#iF*iF•4#1!**#**k*#k***#+f;tk**##*#*iF##*k*k*#*if WHEREAS, on August 18, 1983, Hurricane Alicia came through Harris County, including Baytown; and WHEREAS, the Baytown area received heavy winds and high water producing substantial damage and substantial flooding; and WHEREAS, Section 11 1/4-2 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Baytown provides that the Assistant Emergency Management and Preparedness Director and the Emergency Management and Preparedness Coordinator, may declare the existence of a disaster subject to confirmation by the City Council at its next meeting; and WHEREAS, after a disaster has been declared pursuant to the provisions of Section Il 1/4-2 of the Baytown Code of Ordinances, the Emergency Management and Preparedness Director has certain rule making and supervisory powers which are necessary for the protection of health, safety, and property of victims of disasters; and WHEREAS, as a result of the aforementioned highwinds and flooding, it was necessary for the residents of Brownwood to make a hurried evacuation of their homes; and WHEREAS, as a further result of the damage from aforementioned highwinds and flooding, and of the evacuation, and attendant security problems, the Assistant Emergency Management and Preparedness Director and the Emergency Management and Preparedness Coordinator deemed it advisable to declare a disaster without delay; and WHEREAS, City Council is of the opinion that a disaster as contemplated by Section 11 1/4-2 of the Code of Ordinances did, in fact exist; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS: 1497 Section 1: That the City Council hereby confirms action taken by the Assistant Emergency Management and Preparedness Director and the Emergency Management and Preparedness Coordinator in declaring the existence of a disaster on the 18th day of August, 1983. Section 2: That in view of the continuing health and safety problems from Hurricane Alicia, and the continuing threat to the property of victims of this disaster, the City Council of the City of Baytown hereby declares that such declared state of disaster shall be continued for a period of fifteen days, unless the Emergency Management and Preparedness Director terminates such state of disaster at an earlier time. Section 3: This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage.
