CC Resolution No. 766 1294 RESOLUTION NO. 766 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN URGING THE REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE OF THE TEXAS LEGISLA- TURE TO CONSIDER CERTAIN SUGGESTIONS RELATIVE TO THE RE- DISTRICTING OF THE BAYTOWN AREA, AND PROVIDING FOR THE EFFECTIVE DATE THEREOF. WHEREAS , the tremendous population growth occurring in the State of Texas and particularly in East Harris County has created a need for redistricting in order to provide the Baytown area the representation to which is is entitled; and WHEREAS, the extensive industrial , commercial , and residential growth in Baytown in the past decade should be recognized, as should the expected continuation of such growth; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Baytown believes the most important factor in the redistricting process is that Baytown stay whole and undivided in representation; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN: Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of Baytown recommends that the following suggestions be seriously considered in the redistricting process : A. That the Senate District be bounded on the South by the Houston Ship Channel , on the East by the Harris County line, then north and west from the intersection of such boundaries as sufficient distance to make up a contiguous district in east and northeast Harris County. B. That the Congressional District be considered in the same manner as the Senatorial District . C. That the State Representative District be bounded on the west by the San Jacinto River, on the South by the Houston Ship Channel , on the East by the Harris County line continuing northward within such boundaries a sufficient distance to make up a district . 1295 Section 2 : That a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Redistricting Committee of the Texas Legislature. Section 3 : This Resolution shall take effect from and after it passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
