CC Resolution No. 729 1217 RESOLUTION NO. 729 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS, REQUESTING THE COMMISSIONERS ' COURT OF HARRIS COUNTY TO PROCEED WITH THE NORTH MAIN STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT; AND REQUESTING THAT THEY EXPEDITE THE GARTH ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROJECT. WHEREAS, the 1979 Harris County Bond Program provided funds for the improvement of North Main Street from Baker Road to Interstate 10; and WHEREAS , the greater Baytown area is rapidly developing to the north and along North Main Street ; and WHEREAS, North Main Street is a major thoroughfare between the City and other areas of the County; and WHEREAS , North Main Street needs improvement ; and WHEREAS, the County is presently engaged in the improve- ment of Baker Road; and WHEREAS, a major shopping center will soon open at Garth Road at Interstate 10, resulting in substantially more traffic using Garth Road; and WHEREAS, the work presently being done on Garth Road is proceeding slowly and may not be finished by the time the shopping center opens ; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS : Section 1: The City Council requests that the Commis- sioners ' Court of Harris County proceed with the North Main Street Improvement Project , and in particular, the City Council requests that the Commissioners ' Court consider adding that portion of the North Main Street Improvement Project from Baker Road to Cedar Bayou-Lynchburg Road to the Baker Road Improvement Project . Section 2 : Alternatively, City Council requests that the Commissioners ' Court let that portion of North Main 1218 Street Project between Baker Road and Cedar Bayou-Lynchburg Road as a separate contract . Section 3 : City Council does not desire the County to expedite the North Main Street Improvement Project at the expense of the Baker Road or Garth Road Projects . Section 4 : City Council further requests that the work being done on Garth Road be expedited in order that Garth Road will be ready for the increase in traffic that is expected. Section 5 : This resolution shall take effect from and after its passage. INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of the City Council on this 24th day of April 1980. rlie_(O.
