RESOLUTION NO. 724
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN,
TEXAS, AUTHORIZING THE DIRECTOR OF PLANNING AND TRAFFIC
TO MAKE APPLICATION FOR A BICYCLE GRANT.
WHEREAS, the Department of Transportation is making
available federal grants to state and local governments to
encourage the safe use of bicycles for transportation ; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 141(c) of the Surface
Transportation Act of 1978, the City of Baytown is eligible
to apply for funds out of the Bicycle Grant Program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Baytown would like to develop a
bicycle map and a multi-media education program in an
attempt to encourage and enhance the safety and use of
bicycles within the city; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN:
Section 1 : That the City Council of the City of
Baytown endorses the application for funds under the Bicycle
Grant Program.
Section 2 : That the Director of Planning and Traffic
of the City of Baytown is hereby authorized to make appli-
cation to the Federal Highway Administration in the amount
of $1, 500 for a bicycle education program.
Section 3 : That this resolution shall take effect
immediately upon passage by the City Council of the City of
Baytown.
INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of
the City Council this 27th day of March 1980.
