RESOLUTION NO. 675
A RESOLUTION DECLARING THE INTEREST OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN IN THE MAKEUP OF THE PORT OF HOUSTON COMMISSION
AND REQUESTING THE LEGISLATURE TO CONSIDER THIS INTEREST
WHEN CONSIDERING HOUSE BILL NO. 2203 .
WHEREAS , House Bill No . 2203 , entitled a Bill Relating
to the Appointment and Terms of Commissioners of the Port of
Houston Authority, has been introduced in the State Legislature ;
and
WHEREAS , this bill proposes to change the manner in
which port commissioners are selected; and
WHEREAS , approximately 31%, of the tonnage shipped
through the Port of Houston Authority came from facilities
in the immediate Baytown area; and
WHEREAS , the proposed bill will effectively lessen
Baytown ' s representation on the Port Commission ; NOW THEREFORE ,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN:
Section 1 : The City of Baytown hereby declares it has
a vital interest in the makeup of the Port of Houston Commission
due to the high percentage of tonnage shipped from the
Baytown area.
Section 2 : The City of Baytown requests and encourages
the Texas State Legislature to recognize and consider the
interest Baytown has in the membership of the Port Commission ,
and that any changes made by the Legislature under House
Bill No. 2203 provide for proper representation of the
Baytown area in the Port of Houston Commission .
Section 3 : This resolution shall take effect from and
after its passage.
