RESOLUTION NO. 633
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN
ENDORSING THE CONCEPTS OF THE METROPOLITAN TRANSIT
AUTHORITY' S METRO REGIONAL TRANSIT PLAN, AND URGING ITS
CITIZENS TO VOTE FOR THE PROPOSITION CONFIRMING THE
CREATION OF THE METROPOLITAN TRANSIT AUTHORITY.
WHEREAS, transportation has become one of the greatest
concerns of the citizens of Baytown and Harris County; and
WHEREAS, the continued growth and development of Baytown
and Harris County will cause the transportation problems
facing the residents of these areas to continue to increase ;
and
WHEREAS, City Council recognizes that only a regional
effort to solve these problems will be effective; and
WHEREAS , the Metro Regional Plan proposed by the Interim
Board of the Metropolitan Transit Authority appears to
present a viable solution to many of the transportation
problems of Harris County; and
WHEREAS , the Metropolitan Transit Authority has endorsed
a multi-phase development plan for the Baytown area developed
by the City' s Planning and Traffic Department and approved
by City Council ; and
WHEREAS , the Metropolitan Transit Authority has adopted
a goal of equalizing the transit expenditures in a particular
area with the tax income from that area; and
WHEREAS , the Interim Board of the Metropolitan Transit
Authority has called an election for Saturday, August 12 ,
1978 , so the citizens of Harris County can vote on this
proposal ; NOW THEREFORE ,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
BAYTOWN:
Section 1 : That the City Council approves the concept
of a Regional Transit Plan as proposed by the Metropolitan
Transit Authority.

Section 2 : That the City Council urges the citizens of
Baytown to vote on Saturday, August 12 , 1978 , for the prop-
osition as follows :
Shall the creation of the Metropolitan Transit
Authority be confirmed and shall the levy of the
proposed tax be authorized?
Section 3 : This resolution shall take effect from and
after its passage.
INTRODUCED, READ, and PASSED by the affirmative vote of
the City Council on this 31st day of July , 1978 .
