CC Resolution No. 623 984 RESOLUTION NO. 623 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN SUPPORTING THE CONTINUED OPERATION OF THE GALVESTON OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE. WHEREAS , the City of Baytown is bounded by Scott , Burnett , and Crystal Bays on the west , the Houston Ship Channel on the south, Cedar Bayou on the east , and divided by Goose Creek stream, and that each of these bodies of water is influenced by tidal action; and WHEREAS , residential areas bordering these bodies of water are subject to tidal flooding when tides exceed 2 . 5 feet above mean sea level and that nearly twelve hundred people must be evacuted when tide waters reach 4. 0 feet above mean sea level ; and WHEREAS, tidal flooding associated with hurricanes poses an extreme threat to residents throughout Baytown; and WHEREAS , the Galveston office of the National Weather Service has provided special assistance to the City of Baytown and neighboring communities in the form of tidal forecasts and special hurricane information; NOW THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BAYTOWN, TEXAS : Section 1 : That the City of Baytown supports the continued operation of the Galveston office of the National Weather Service because of the need for the special tide information which that office has provided Baytown in the past . Section 2 : That the City of Baytown requests that the Galveston office of the National Weather Service be permitted to continue providing vital local statements and warnings directly to the City of Baytown and other local governments. 985 Section 3 : That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the chief meteorologists of the Galveston and Houston offices of the National Weather Service. Section 4 : That this resolution take effect from and after its passage by the City Council of the City of Baytown.
