CC Resolution No. 616 964 RESOLUTION NO. 616 AN UNANIMOUS RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL EXPRESSING DEEP GRATITUDE FOR TOM GENTRY' S CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE CITY OF BAYTOWN. I . Tom Gentry has served the City of Baytown for six years as a councilmember and as Mayor . During such time, he distinguished both himself and the City of Baytown through his untiring efforts on behalf of the City Council , the City' s administration, and the citizens of Baytown. II . As Councilman of District No. Four from April 12 , 1972 to May 9, 1973 , Tom Gentry was instrumental in the implemen- tation of the 1970 Bond Program, including acquisition and development of park land, improvement of water and sewer facilities, and the construction of street improvements. III . As Mayor of the City from May 9, 1973 to April 10, 1978, Tom Gentry provided the City with strong leadership . Under his guidance, the Baytown Area Water Authority was created to supply surface water to the City and thus further mitigate subsidence. The City restructured its Industrial District Policy in order to promote a healthy Baytown economy. The City also expanded its Homestead Tax Exemption and introduced a transportation program for senior citizens. IV. As Mayor, Tom Gentry directed the development and promotion of the 11. 5 million dollar 1975 Capital Improvements Program which provided funds to expand Sterling Municipal Library, rebuild Market Street bridge over Goose Creek, develop the Bicentennial Park and the Baytown Sports Complex, and improve the water , sewer , and drainage systems and the streets and roads within the City. 965 V. By his daily participation in the affairs of the City, Tom Gentry has evidenced concern for Baytown--its people and its employees. During this time the City has experienced continued growth and prosperity. Therefore, it is accordingly RESOLVED, that we, the City Council of the City of Baytown, Texas, for ourselves and on behalf of all the citizens of Baytown, express our profound appreciation and declare our deep gratitude for his great contributions to the government of the City of Baytown, and record our appre- ciation for his personal generosity, and it is further RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby officially recognizes, thanks, and commends Tom Gentry for his valuable and faithful services as Councilman and Mayor for the City of Baytown.
